If you were charged after canceling your Redis Cloud subscription, the most common reason is that part of the subscription was still active when billing ran, or the charge was for a billing period that ended before your cancellation took effect. In Redis Cloud, deleting a database is not always the same as canceling a subscription. Marketplace subscriptions may also need to be canceled in your cloud provider account. This article explains why this happens, how it differs for Essentials, Pro, and AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace subscriptions, and what to check if the charge still does not look right.
Quick answer
You may still see a charge after canceling if:
You deleted a database, but not the subscription
Another database was still active under the same subscription
Your subscription was billed through AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace and the marketplace subscription was still active
The invoice was already generated before cancellation
The charge was for earlier Pro usage, billed afterward
Often, the charge is the final expected charge, not a new recurring one.
Quick Fix Table
| What happened | What it usually means / What you should do |
|---|---|
| I canceled, then saw one more charge | The invoice was already generated, or the charge was for earlier usage. Check the invoice date and billing period |
| I deleted my database but still got billed | The subscription may still exist, or another database may still be active. Check the subscription and all databases under it |
| I canceled through AWS or GCP, but billing continued | The Redis Cloud side or marketplace side may still be active. Check both Redis Cloud and your marketplace account |
| I removed my credit card, but charges continued | Cards can only be removed if they are not attached to an active subscription. Continued charges are typically due to previously failed payments being retried successfully or charges for prior usage (for example, Pro subscription usage billed after mid-month termination). Delete all databases and the subscription to stop future charges |
| I do not see anything active, but I am still being charged | Charges may be from outstanding unpaid balances or prior usage (such as previous month billing for Pro), even if you don’t see active resources in the current account or organization. Check your account switcher and login method |
How cancellation works in Redis Cloud
In Redis Cloud, these actions are different:
Deleting a database removes only that database.
Deleting a subscription stops future billing for that subscription, but only after all databases under it are deleted.
Canceling through AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace affects the billing agreement with the cloud provider, but the impact on Redis Cloud resources depends on the subscription type.
For on-demand (pay-as-you-go) customers, canceling the marketplace subscription will result in automatic deletion of Redis Cloud resources and permanent data loss.
For contracted (private offer) customers, the subscription cannot be fully canceled directly through the marketplace. Customers must submit a request to both Redis and the marketplace provider to complete the cancellation process.
Because of these differences, customers may assume all services are canceled when parts of the billing or resource lifecycle are still active.
If you need to retain your Redis Cloud resources after canceling the marketplace agreement, first convert the subscription to direct billing by adding a valid payment method in the Redis Cloud Console before initiating cancellation.
Why you may still see a charge
You deleted the database, but not the subscription
This is one of the most common reasons.
If the database was deleted but the subscription still exists, billing may continue depending on the plan and subscription state.
Another database was still active
Some subscriptions have more than one database. If even one database remained active, the subscription may still have been billable.
The invoice was already generated before cancellation
For Essentials, billing is monthly and charged in advance. If the invoice was created before you canceled, that month’s charge is usually still valid.
The charge is for earlier Pro usage
For Pro, billing is based on usage and is usually charged after the usage period ends. That means you may cancel the subscription and still receive one final invoice for the time you used it before cancellation.
Your marketplace subscription was still active
If the subscription was purchased through AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace, you may need to cancel it in both places:
In the Redis Cloud Console
In the cloud marketplace account
If only one side was canceled, billing may continue.
Your contract or commitment was still active
If your subscription is tied to a direct contract, annual commitment, or private offer, deleting resources does not automatically end the commercial agreement.
How billing differs by plan
Essentials
Redis Cloud Essentials is billed as a fixed monthly plan in advance.
That means:
You are charged for the month at the start of the billing cycle
If you cancel after that invoice is generated, you may still see that month’s charge
Usually, this is the final expected charge
Pro
Redis Cloud Pro is usage-based.
That means:
You are billed for what you use
Charges usually appear after the usage period ends
A charge after cancellation may simply be your final invoice for earlier usage
AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace
For marketplace subscriptions, billing and resource cleanup are related but separate.
You may need to:
Delete all Redis Cloud databases
Delete the Redis Cloud subscription
Cancel or unsubscribe in AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace
How to check whether the charge is expected
Step 1: Check whether the subscription still exists
In the Redis Cloud Console:
Open Subscriptions
Find the subscription you thought you had canceled
Confirm whether it still exists
If it does, billing may still be active.
Step 2: Check whether any databases are still active
Open the subscription and review the Databases list.
If any database is still active, that may explain the charge.
Step 3: Review the invoice
Open Billing & Payments and then Billing History.
Check:
Invoice date
Billing period or usage period
Amount charged
Compare those dates to when you deleted the database or subscription.
If the charge covers time before cancellation took effect, it is usually expected.
Step 4: Check your account or organization
If you don't see any active resources, make sure you're in the correct Redis Cloud account.
Check:
Your account switcher
Other organizations under your login
Other login methods you may have used before, such as Google, GitHub, or SSO
Step 5: Check AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace if applicable
If you purchased Redis Cloud through a marketplace, check whether the marketplace subscription is still active there too.
How to fully stop future charges
To fully stop future billing for a Redis Cloud subscription:
Delete all databases in the subscription
Delete the subscription itself
If purchased through AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace, cancel or unsubscribe there too
After that, you may still see one final valid invoice, depending on your plan.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What it means / What to do |
|---|---|
| I canceled yesterday and was charged today | The charge may already have been generated, or it may be for an earlier billing period. Check the invoice date and billing period |
| I deleted the database, but not the subscription | The subscription may still be active. Delete the subscription after all databases are removed |
| I canceled in AWS or GCP, but charges continued | One side may still be active. Check both Redis Cloud and the marketplace account |
| I see no active resources, but I am still being charged | You may be in the wrong account or organization. Check other Redis Cloud accounts and login methods |
| I removed my card, but billing did not stop | Cards can only be removed if not attached to an active subscription, and continued charges are typically from previously failed payments being retried successfully. Delete the databases and the subscription |
When to contact Support
Contact Support if:
You no longer see any databases or subscriptions
The invoice period does not match your usage or cancellation timing
Marketplace billing still appears active after cleanup on both sides
You believe the charge is a duplicate or billing error
Include:
Your Redis Cloud account email
Subscription ID, if available
Invoice number
Charge amount and date
Whether the subscription was direct, AWS Marketplace, or Google Cloud Marketplace
