The Redis Cloud Cost Report is a downloadable CSV file that breaks down your monthly Redis Cloud spend, including subscription and database usage, network charges, and custom tags (where configured) for cost allocation. The report is essential for financial management, internal cost allocation, and FinOps/BI workflows. It is available from the Redis Cloud Console to users with Billing Admin or Owner roles.
This guide explains how to download the report, visualize it in Google Sheets, Excel, or BI tools, understand the report’s structure, and troubleshoot common issues.
Prerequisites
Roles: Only Owners or Billing Admins can download the Cost Report. Viewer roles do not have billing access.
Tools: Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
Downloading the Cost Report
From the Redis Cloud Console (UI)
Log in to the Redis Cloud Console.
In the left sidebar, select Billing & Payments.
Click Cost Report in the top right corner.
-
Wait a few seconds for the file to prepare. The CSV will download automatically.
Large or long-running accounts may take longer to generate.
Current-month reports show costs up to “now.”
Visualizing the Cost Report
After downloading the CSV, you can analyze and visualize your costs using Sheets, Excel, or enterprise BI tools.
Using Google Sheets
-
Import the Report
Open Google Sheets → File > Import > Upload → select the CSV.
Choose Insert new sheet(s).
-
Identify Subscription Type
Separate Fixed (Essentials) vs Flexible (Pro) subscriptions.
Essentials: one line per month per subscription.
Pro: multiple lines per database, with intra-month changes.
-
Create a Pivot Table
Highlight your data → Insert > Pivot Table.
-
In the editor:
Rows: Database Name or Subscription Name
Columns: Start Date/End Date (group by Month)
Values: Total Cost ($)
Filters: Plan, Region, Tags as needed
-
Add Charts
Select the pivot table → Insert > Chart.
Use bar, line, or column charts to track spend trends by DB, subscription, or region.
Sample Cost Report in Google Sheet
Using Microsoft Excel
Import the CSV → create Pivot Table → insert charts (process nearly identical to Sheets).
Using BI Tools (Optional)
Load the CSV into Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
Join with other cost datasets (e.g., cloud provider billing exports).
Build dashboards for ongoing FinOps/BI visibility.
Understanding Report Structure
The Cost Report CSV includes:
Essentials Subscriptions – One row per month per subscription. Fields: Start/End date, Subscription ID/name, Plan size (MB), Plan cost ($).
Pro Subscriptions – Multiple rows per database, showing usage windows, intra-month changes, and minimum billing adjustments. Fields: Start/End date, Subscription/Database ID, Region, HA, Memory (MB), Throughput, RBU type/count, RBU price/hr, Hours, Database cost ($), plus tags if set.
Network Charges (Q4 2025 onward) – Separate monthly line per subscription (RBU Type: “Network”). Network costs finalize 48–72 hours after month-end.
Note: The Cost Report shows Redis list price. Discounts, credits, and marketplace charges appear in invoices or cloud provider billing portals.
Network Cost Lines (Starting November 2025)
Beginning November 1, 2025, the Cost Report includes a dedicated line item for network costs at the subscription level, labeled clearly as Network.
These charges appear alongside Redis Cloud usage lines to provide a complete view of total monthly costs.
Key Details
Network cost lines appear only at the subscription level; database-level granularity is not provided.
Network costs are typically finalized 48–72 hours after month-end.
For billing months before November 1, 2025, the network cost column displays 0.00 — this is expected behavior.
The Cost Report continues to show Redis list price; any discounts, credits, or marketplace adjustments remain visible in invoices or cloud-provider billing portals.
Why It Matters
Seeing “0” in the Network column for earlier months does not indicate missing data.
From November 2025 onward, customers gain full visibility into both Redis Cloud usage and associated network costs, improving transparency for financial review.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
| Problem | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Report doesn’t download or is blank | User lacks Billing Admin/Owner role, or account has no usage data | Verify role permissions and ensure account has active usage. Try incognito browser or clear cookies. |
| Report generation is slow or errors out | Large account data volume or repeated clicks during generation | Wait for completion before retrying. Reopen the Cost Report later or contact Redis Support if issue persists |
| Network charges missing | Network usage not yet finalized | Wait 48–72 hours after month-end for finalization. Check invoice or marketplace portal in the meantime. |
| Tags not visible | Tags unsupported for multi-DB Essentials or not configured | Tags only appear for single-DB Essentials or all Flexible/Pro subscriptions. Confirm tag setup. |
| Automated downloads fail | CAPTCHA or rate-limit protection triggered | Automation not yet supported. API access planned for GA (late 2025). Use manual download. |
| Privileged access error | Logged in as Viewer or non-billing role | Switch to a user with Billing Admin or Owner role. |
| CSV vs. marketplace bill mismatch | Redis CSV excludes marketplace credits or discounts | Compare with AWS/GCP billing portal for total cost reconciliation. |
| Older months show network cost = 0 | Network cost line did not apply prior to Nov 2025 | No action needed — network cost lines begin Nov 2025 |
| Latest month missing network cost line | Month‐end not finalised yet | Wait up to 72 h after month end, then refresh/download again |
